Brighton & Hove Albion vs. Manchester City – Football Match Report – May 18, 2021

Ten-man Manchester City threw away a two-goal lead to lose 3-2 against Brighton & Hove Albion in a frantic and thrilling game.

An eventful opening saw City, already crowned Premier League champions, open the scoring through Ilkay Gundogan on two minutes before Joao Cancelo was sent off for a foul on Brighton striker Danny Welbeck minutes later.

Phil Foden doubled City’s advantage early in the second half, running from inside his own half before slotting home, but that strike sparked the hosts into life.

Two minutes later Leandro Trossard gave the returning fans something to cheer about after seizing upon Rodri‘s loose pass to drive into the City penalty are and score.

Adam Webster pulled Brighton level on 72 minutes, the defender’s header from a Pascal Gross cross, beating Ederson in the City goal.

And soon after Graham Potter’s side went into the lead when Dan Burn scored his first goal for the club, poking home from close range after Ederson saved his initial effort.
